CHALK PAINT UPHOLSTERY MAKEOVER WITH DIXIE BELLE PAINT

I've been working on another
Chalk Paint
Upholstery Makeover, this time with
Dixie Belle Paint, and I finally finished up so I can share with you!

I purchased this chair a year ago for just 30 bucks, for my own living room, with intentions of painting the fabric. As you can see, it was like a 70's shaggy green fabric. This kind of fabric is harder to paint because of the lay of the pile, but I knew I wanted to take on the task, especially having gotten such a deal on it!

I decided to go with a 2 tone look and the french grain stripe was my last minute finishing touch. In fact, it's still wet in the photo so I will need to sand it and wax, but I was too impatient and ready to share!

I chose
Dixie Belle Paint in Driftwood, which is a soft grey and then I custom mixed Lemonade and Chocolate to get this rich, light tan or beige color for the seat, legs and grain stripe. The grain stripe I decided to go over with their Van Dyke Brown glaze, just to make it pop a little more, and then I also used the glaze on the wood legs.

This type of fabric really was thirsty so I used 2 coats, allowing 24 hours between each. I sanded and waxed 24 hours after the final coat to help seal and soften the fabric. You can see in the photos that 1 coat was not enough. Most fabrics however, would be fine with one coat or with thinning the paint a little with water.

For the grain sack stripes, I just eyeballed it and taped off with painters tape. I did the middle large stripe first and then the 2 smaller ones on the outside.

Here's the full makeover from beginning to end! It took me a bit of time, but was so well worth it and the perfect addition to my living room! What do you think?
