DIXIE BELLE PAINT DRESSER MAKEOVERS - BEFORE & AFTER

I'm so excited to share these Dixie Belle Paint Dresser Makeovers with you, including the full before & after photos! Plus some time and paint saving tips I finally tested out after 20+ years of painting furniture!

I picked up these 2 beautiful solid mahogany chest of drawers and they had so much potential. Beautiful lines and wood detail from days long gone. I was surprised that they were in such great shape for their age and had all of their original hardware, which I wanted to keep.

Since they were going into my resale booth, I decided not to paint them as a matching set, it's just more likely in our market that single dressers are purchased. So I got to pick 2 beautiful colors from the Dixie Belle Mineral Paint palette!

For the 4 drawer chest I used Dixie Belle "DropCloth" and the 5 drawer chest got a nice pop of color with Dixie Belle, "The Gulf".

They each got just 1 coat on the body, 2 coats on the top, sanding and extra distressing to accentuate the lines, then
clear wax and light buffing, all by hand.

I painted this set faster than any I have in years because I FINALLY invested in premium brushes specifically made for chalk paint, and oh my gosh...I cannot begin to tell you what a difference it makes! I use so much less paint, the thicker brush holds more without dripping so less back and forth getting paint (major time AND paint saver!) it goes on much smoother and I honestly tell you it took me half the time as usual.

You all know me, I never "splurge" and have been using the $1 chip brushes for years and years. I will still use them on some things, but on furniture, I will save my paint and time from now on with my new brushes!

My favorite is the Medium brush from Chalk Pro Products - you can use it for paint and wax and it is unreal the difference it makes in time, finish and saving paint!

Here you can see the transformation from beginning to end in the booth. They are currently awaiting their new homes!

  1. Thanks so much for your tutorial! I have a question though: I have an oak table that is hideous but with paint could be kinda cute. However, the top is oak laminate, not real wood, and the rest of the table is solid wood. Will this method still work? Would chalk paint be a better option (I have to get some paint my piano anyway-thanks for your tutorial on that!)? Some advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
